Vindication

In this game, players walk around the map revealing action spaces as they go. Each turn you activate one ability card in front of you, and activate the ability of one of the tiles you end your movement at. Largely the tiles either allow you to bank cubes into one the colored circles on the board, or spend cubes from the banks to purchase more cards. One of the interesting elements of the game is you can spend cubes to claim the tiles for yourself, which gives you some points now and again at the end of the game, but comes with the additional benefit that if another player used the tile you get the payout again. There's a little jockeying for position, as players can pay double the cubes to knock your claim marker off the tile and claim it for themselves. There's an interesting process of cube management, as there is a specific action that lets you move cubes from your unavailable area to your supply, or from your supply to your fully charged area. You also need cubes to activate your cards, so cubes start locking up from that, and from your board presence. As the game goes on, more and more endgame conditions are added to the game, pushing the endgame timer closer and closer. There are a lot of ways to go each turn, and it's easy to get distracted by the possibilities granted to you by your position. There's a decent amount of flip luck involved with what cards are available to you, since there is a pile for each of 6 colors of cards in the game, each with the ability to choose from one face up card or one unknown facedown draw. There's a good amount of player interaction, predicting where other players will go, and when you can get a little bit in the way by standing where they will want to be. I'm enjoying this a lot, although I think the overall experience is improved by two tiles from the advanced rules of the base game (the one that lets you purchase pet cards and the one that gives you the ability to draw more secret quest cards), as well as the reduced luck variant dice from the expansion. The dice are used sparingly in the game, mostly just used when you gain an orange card which have additional endgame scoring opportunities. Even so, the mildly reduced luck that comes with the expansion version of the dice is welcome. :star: Art, Iconography and components functional :star: Clever or interesting mechanisms :star: Reasonably low downtime between turns with mildly AP players :star: Multiple plays stay interesting :star: Low or mitigatable luck elements :star::star::nostar::nostar::nostar: Raw enjoyment
