Cutthroat Caverns

Players cooperate to survive a sequence of nine encounters while also competing for the final prize. Each round presents a random monster or hazard with a prestige value; players position their characters, play combat cards, and vie to land the killing blow to claim that prestige. Tactical cooperation is necessary to keep the party alive, but players can betray allies and manipulate outcomes to maximize their own prestige. The survivor with the most prestige after nine encounters wins; if the group is wiped out before then, the game ends with no winner.

In this game, players hit monsters, but only the player who does the final blow kills, so you want to try to wear it down but not too much, but then it attacks people, so there should be an interesting push your luck tension. The problem is there are tons of super powerful action cards that make the game completely unpredictable and eliminate most of the strategy. The games does have a nice sense of humor, which is nice. :star: Art and components :nostar: Innovative mechanics :star: Handles 5 or more players :nostar: Good with min or max players :star: Low time between turns :nostar: Comfortable complexity :star: Re-playability :nostar::nostar::nostar: Enjoyment

Trust is a funny thing. Is that a knife behind your back, stuck in your back or will it be stuck into mine? This game is as if Dungeons and Dragons had a baby with Munchkin. It would look weird but you could not look away - and it would have superpowers (why not?). With the expansions tons of replayability and perhaps some upset feelings. Trust me.

Cutthroat Caverns may cause some arguments between players, and that coupled with its theme will keep it from being played with some of my gaming groups. But with an adventure loving, easy-going group, this can be one of the most fun experiences I've ever had with a game. I like the fact that players are forced to be cooperative yet can stick the dagger into each other at the most inopportune moment. Shrieks of rage and shock and laughter mingle together in this game from Smirk and Dagger, their best work to date. I highly look forward to the multiple expansions promised, to see what new monsters and rules will be added. For me, one of the best games of 2007. See my review for more details...
