Babel

2000 · Card Game

Babel

Players recruit and place members of five ancient tribes across a small map of regions representing Medes, Sumerians, Hittites, Persians, and Assyrians. On a turn, a player may move by discarding a card, place tribe cards in a region, build temple levels by committing tribesmen and meeting prerequisites, move tribesmen between regions, or activate tribe-specific skills by forming and discarding sets of three or more cards at their location. Skills include forcing discards, stealing or destroying temples, and skipping build levels, and many actions may be repeated while unspent cards are kept for later use. The game ends when a player reaches the temple-point thresholds defined by the victory conditions.

Vicious game, but fun. It may just be one of my favorite Kosmos two-player games; but some people would likely be too squeamish for the nasty play.
