Capital Lux

Assign character cards to your hometown for points or contribute them to the capital to use their special abilities in this tactical card game. Draft a hand each round, then play cards to either location. Merchants provide gold, Agents alter profession limits, Scholars draw cards, and Clerics move cards from the capital to your hometown. At the end of each round, compare the value of four professions in your hometown with the capital; exceeding a profession’s limit removes those cards. After three rounds, score the characters remaining in your hometown.

Simple game that brings cool and fresh strategy to the table. Short games but deep, and great art.

Three times across the game, players draft hands of cards, then take turns playing a card either to the center of the table and using an ability matching the color, or playing it to their tableau. At the end of the round if a player has a greater sum of numbers on cards of a color, than is present in the center, they lose their whole pile of that color. Then the player with the highest total of that color remaining, gets to bank the highest value card from the center as endgame points. The abilities on the cards are somewhat bland with the exception of one, which is the card that lets you draw a secret modifier card and add it to a stack in the center, giving you secret information about that stack. Other than that, there doesn't appear to be a lot of interesting intrigue to this game. The artwork is nice enough, but I didn't feel like there was much I could do in terms of not being at the mercy of the draft. Maybe a more interesting and nuanced game reveals itself after after a few plays, but I didn't see any magic here. :star: Art, Iconography and components functional :nostar: Clever or interesting mechanisms :star: Reasonably low downtime between turns with mildly AP players :nostar: Multiple plays stay interesting :nostar: Low or mitigatable luck elements :star::nostar::nostar::nostar::nostar: Raw enjoyment
