Cosmic Encounter: 42nd Anniversary Edition
Players assume control of bizarre alien species each with unique powers and vie to spread colonies across the galaxy. Gameplay revolves around negotiating, forming temporary alliances, and resolving encounters through card play and dice or conflict resolution mechanics to win systems from opponents. A compact rulebook and illustrated quick-start guide present core rules and setup, while translucent ship tokens represent players’ presence on the board. The box includes a new alien with hand-manipulation abilities that can affect other players’ hands, plus Cosmic Combo cards that group species into themed matchups for varied three- to five-player games.

Vic Granell7.0 Classic game with some twists and translucent ships in the anniversary edition. The inclusion of so many different alien races with asymmetrical powers is good and adds variability, but the rules about some of them are heavily unclear and forces you to waste some game to looking for clarifications online. I bet I'd love it if I had started playing it years ago, but having played it now for the first time, there are just so many better games out there. Still, open to getting it to the table!
Emily C10.0 I love this game. I know people think certain aliens are OP or that it is completely unbalanced, but that's the best part the hilarity of the game when played with friends. I do admit that my enjoyment stems from the group of people I play with and there have been plays where it has fallen flat with others because they were not engaged, but I still love the game because it's never a runaway.
