Everdell Duo

Players place workers to gather resources and play cards face up to build a personal woodland city over four seasons. Cards come from the hand or a communal meadow; only meadow cards adjacent to the sun or moon token are available, and players shift those tokens as part of their turns, making timing and planning important. Players pursue changing event goals each game and score points at the end of the fourth season to determine the winner, or meet chapter-specific requirements when playing cooperatively.

Rules questions

Answered from the rulebook by Ludoya's rules assistant.

Can I play a card only from the Meadow or can I also play from my hand?

You may play cards from your hand, from Meadow cards by the Sun token, or from Meadow cards by the Moon token; when you play a Meadow card fully resolve it and then replenish the Meadow (rulebook pp.5–6).

If I take the “Pick a Card” action, do I have to choose a Meadow card that the Sun or Moon is touching?

No — when you Pick a Card you may draw from the deck or take any card from the Meadow, even if the Sun or Moon is not near it, then replenish the Meadow (rulebook p.6).

When do green (Production) cards activate — when I play them or only during seasons?

Production (green) cards activate immediately when you play them and again at the beginning of Spring and Autumn (rulebook pp.6–7).

How do Occupied tokens work and can I use them with other discounts?

An Occupied token lets you play a Critter for 0 berries by placing the token on a Construction of the same color (one Occupied token per color); you may choose to use an Occupied token even if another discount (e.g., Inn or River) is available (rulebook p.5).

I have an unplaced worker but the Sun (or Moon) token is at the end — can I still place that worker?

No — you may not perform an action that would require moving a token once that token has reached the end of its path, so you cannot take a Place a Worker action if it would move the Sun (or Moon) token when that token is already at the end (rulebook p.4).

When does the game end and how are ties broken?

The game ends immediately when both the Sun and Moon tokens reach the end of the track in Autumn; score cards, purple bonuses, point tokens, and Events, and resolve ties using (1) most Events, (2) most leftover resources, (3) most cards in city, then (4) most cards in hand (rulebook p.7).
