Everdell: Collector's Edition

Set in a lush valley of forests, streams, and hollows, players lead a band of anthropomorphic critters as they settle new territories and build a thriving woodland city. Play combines worker placement and tableau-building: spend workers to gather resources, draw cards, or take special actions; play Construction and Critter cards into a personal tableau to produce resources, grant abilities, and score points; and advance through seasonal rounds that reset and add workers. The boxed Collector’s Edition bundles extra scenario and card content plus upgraded components and storage.

overall love the concept, board, artwork, and most of game play, but certain cards or combos can result in one player feeling more out-of-balance with the rest, resulting in disgruntled players, especially adding in legendaries and rugwort cards which can be more antagonistic than the base game. It's a long game to sit through if your strategy is messed up by another player, so check in with player expectations before adding in these cards.

Rules questions

Answered from the rulebook by Ludoya's rules assistant.

Can I put two of my workers on the same Forest location to get both rewards?

No — you may not place two of your own workers on a single Forest location; in a two- or three-player game there is room for only one worker on each Forest location, and shared vs exclusive rules also apply (see page 8).

If a Critter lists a Construction, can I play that Critter for free and what happens to the Construction?

Yes — if the listed Construction is already in your city you may play the Critter without paying its cost, but you must place an “Occupied” token on that Construction (you may do this only once per Construction), and the token stays even if the free Critter is later removed (page 10).

If I place a worker on a Destination in another player’s city, do they get a point?

If the Destination in the other city has an OPEN symbol, placing a worker there gives the owner 1 point token from the supply; you may place workers on Destinations in your city or on OPEN Destinations in other cities (page 9).

When I play a card from the Meadow, when do I replace that Meadow card?

You immediately replenish the Meadow after playing a Meadow card — the rule sequence specifies replenishing the Meadow (if the card came from the Meadow) during the card-play timing steps (page 11).

When can I Prepare for Season and do all players have to do it at the same time?

You Prepare for Season on your turn when your workers are all deployed and you can’t or don’t want to take another action; you bring back your deployed workers and take the season bonuses (gain workers and activate green Production where applicable), and players do not have to Prepare for Season at the same time (pages 12–13).
