Players lead samurai into the sinking caverns beneath an erupting volcano to recover relics, sacred scrolls, monks and schematics for magical weapons. Movement and exploration reveal tiles and encounters; players collect resources, craft gear and face dragons in solo or cooperative combat. The game can be played competitively or cooperatively with one to six players. Play continues until a player hits a victory-point threshold, which triggers a fixed number of final turns in which collected items, crafted equipment and defeated foes are delivered to the Shōgun to determine the winner.
