Galaxy Trucker (Second Edition)

Galaxy Trucker (Second Edition)

Players simultaneously grab component tiles from a common supply to build improvised spaceships in real time. After launch, each ship faces timed encounters and hazard cards that damage modules, eject cargo and crew, and present opportunities for profit through deliveries and combat. Players score credits for surviving encounters, delivering goods, defeating pirates, and other bonuses; the aim is to finish the run with as much ship and money intact as possible. This edition updates the components, art, and card effects and can be played as a single frantic flight or as a series of three flights for a longer campaign.

Rules questions

Answered from the rulebook by Ludoya's rules assistant.

Can I attach a tile to any open square next to my ship, or do connector types have to match?

You must join new components using the three connector types and only matching connectors legally join (one-pipe to one-pipe, two-pipe to two-pipe, universal to any); smooth sides cannot touch connectors and every connector touched must legally join if a piece touches multiple sides (page 5).

Can I place components behind engines or in front of cannons if I want to?

No — an engine’s exhaust must point to the rear and there can be no component on the square behind an engine, and similarly no component may occupy the square directly in front of a cannon’s barrel (page 6).

What exactly is an exposed connector and does having them matter?

An exposed connector is any connector side not adjacent to another component; exposed connectors are allowed but increase the risk of damage during flight and affect bonuses (fewer exposed connectors is better) (page 8).

How do batteries affect double engines and double cannons when I count engine or cannon strength?

Double engines and double cannons count only if you spend battery tokens on them (a spent battery makes a double engine count as +2, and a double forward cannon with a battery counts as +2), and side/rear cannons count at half value; you must decide which doubles to use when calculating strength (page 11).

When Smugglers or similar enemies appear, who gets attacked first and what if there's a tie?

Enemies attack players in flight order starting with the leader and proceed down the line until defeated; if a player’s strength ties the enemy nothing happens to that player but the enemy is not defeated and moves on to the next player (page 12).

Can I reserve components while building, and what happens if I never place a reserved piece?

You may reserve up to two components on your board while building and they cannot be returned to the table, and any reserved component left unadded becomes the start of your discard pile and counts as a component lost (page 17).
