SCOUT

Players draft and manipulate a hand of double-ended number cards to build and contest sets on the table. Each card shows two values (one per end) and players may rotate their entire hand but may not change the order of cards; on a turn a player either plays one or more adjacent cards that form a same-value or consecutive run, or scouts by taking a card from an end of the current table set and inserting it anywhere in their hand in either orientation. Played sets are compared by size, type (matching values beats runs), and value; overplaying captures the previous set face down for end‑of‑round points. Rounds end when a player empties their hand or players repeatedly scout; scoring awards points for captured cards and penalizes cards left in hand. Play proceeds for a fixed number of rounds and the highest total wins.

I like it, but I'm really bad at it, and I think it's really ugly, which does make me enjoy it less. I may replace it with Jungo in the future.

Rules questions

Answered from the rulebook by Ludoya's rules assistant.

Can I rearrange or flip individual cards in my hand during a round?

No — during a round you may not rearrange the left/right order of cards or change individual card orientation; only immediately after the deal you may change the orientation of all your cards at once (page 1).

What exactly counts as a legal “consecutive” set — do the numbers have to be ascending?

A multi-card set must be either consecutive numbers or matching numbers; consecutive sets may be either ascending or descending (page 1).

How do I know if my set is stronger than the Active Set? What do I compare first?

Compare in this order: 1) number of cards (more cards wins), 2) if equal size then matching beats consecutive, and 3) if same size and type compare the smallest-number card in each set — the higher smallest wins (page 2).

When I Scout, which card can I take from the Active Set and can I flip it or place it anywhere in my hand?

You may take one card from either end of the Active Set (not from the middle), place it anywhere in your hand, and you may change that card's orientation; the owner of the Active Set then takes a Scout chip (page 2).

How does Scout & Show work — can I use it more than once per round?

By spending your Scout & Show chip you may Show immediately after Scouting, and each player may use their Scout & Show chip only once per round (page 2).

How is scoring calculated at the end of the round — what counts for points and penalties?

Each collected/turned-over card and each Scout chip is worth +1 point; you lose 1 point for each card remaining in your hand (except the player who met ending condition ii does not lose points), and the Scout & Show chip and the Active Set are not counted toward score (page 2).
