2003 · City Building
Alhambra
Players act as master builders in 13th-century Granada, acquiring and arranging tiles to expand a walled palace complex with towers, gardens, pavilions, arcades, seraglios and chambers. Money comes in four currencies and sits in an open market; on a turn a player either takes currency, buys a building tile from the visible market (then places it in the complex or a reserve), or rearranges/constructs using tiles already owned. Exact-payment purchases grant an extra turn. Scoring occurs at intervals for majority in six building types and for the longest continuous exterior wall; the game ends when the building market cannot be refilled and final scoring determines the winner.

Rules questions
Answered from the rulebook by Ludoya's rules assistant.
Do I have to pay the exact price for a building tile? Can I overpay and get change?
No change is given — you must pay at least the price shown but any overpayment is kept and gives no change; if you pay the exact amount you may continue your turn (page 3).
Do tiles on my reserve board count when scoring building majority?
No — building tiles on reserve boards are NOT counted toward scoring; only tiles placed in your Alhambra count (page 5).
Can I rotate tiles or place them touching only at a corner?
No — every tile must be placed the same way round as your starting tile, must join at least one full side (not just a corner), adjoining sides must match (wall to wall or no wall), you must reach each tile on foot from the starting tile, and you may not create enclosed empty spaces (page 4).
If I buy a tile, when is the market refilled? Can I immediately buy a newly drawn tile?
The building market is not refilled while it is still your turn; empty squares are only refilled at the end of your turn, so you cannot buy tiles drawn to refill until after your turn ends (page 3).
How do you count and score the wall around your Alhambra? Do internal walls count?
You score the longest joined exterior wall: each outer tile side with a wall segment counts 1 point; internal/back-to-back wall segments do not score (page 6).
What happens to the tiles left in the market when the game ends? Who gets them?
When the game ends the remaining market tiles are given to the players who hold the most money of the corresponding currency in hand (ties leave that tile on the market), and those tiles may then be added following normal placement rules (page 6).
