Monkey Palace

Monkey Palace

Players work in a jungle setting to construct a communal palace for a troop of monkeys using LEGO-like building components. The game mixes cooperative objectives—advancing the shared construction—with competitive goals as players vie for brick income and victory points. Actions on the board affect who gains resources and scoring opportunities while the ever-present Monkey piece influences play. Each session produces a different physical build and tableau, combining light strategic planning, resource management, and tactical interaction between cooperation and competition.

This game is pretty fun! You get to play with Legos when it's not your turn. Always get arches in the beginning rounds or might get stuck playing 1-2 arches per turn. I was accused of gatekeeping at my last session with new players because I didn't tell everyone to take arches. Each other player took at least one single-block each time with their monkey card(s), and I was the only one with monkey cards at the end of the game that had recurring rewards. Why must I tow the line between alpha-gaming and gatekeeping?
