Petteia

An abstract, historically based battle game reconstructed from ancient Roman and earlier Mediterranean sources. Players each command ranks of pieces on a square grid and move them orthogonally according to a chosen rule set (options include rooklike sliding, single-step orthogonal, or other reconstructed moves). Captures occur by sandwiching an enemy piece between two of the opponent’s pieces. Victory is usually achieved by capturing all opposing pieces, though alternate win conditions (such as escorting pieces to the opponent’s back rank) are supported by some rule variants. This edition standardizes a plausible historic rule set and includes an optional king/standard piece and board-size variants derived from archaeological and literary evidence.
