Raccoon Tycoon
Compete as rival industrialists in a growing Gilded Age land, producing and trading commodities like wheat, wood, iron, coal, manufactured goods and luxuries. Players manage production, manipulate an evolving market to sell at profitable prices, and invest earnings to buy towns, buildings and railroads. Auctions adjudicate rail purchases while buildings provide special abilities and production bonuses. Victory is determined by wealth and control of the most valuable towns and rail lines; players balance market timing, investment and auction strategy to become the dominant tycoon in Astoria.

Evan3.5 In this game you buy and sell goods, auction off railroad cards that give increasing points the more copies of the same card you win, spend goods to build buildings that improve your engine or build town cards that get you points. A big part of this game is preparedness and timing. Preparedness in terms of having enough of the right goods at the right time to get the best benefit from the market when a goods price is risen by the secondary effect of someone playing a gather goods card, or timing in terms of starting an auction for a card when other players are at a low point in their money in hand. It's a competent design with nice components that I found mildly frustrating to play. The aggressive bidding of people for a card they know you need and what feels a little like constantly chasing your tail in terms of the various market prices of the goods didn't create a very pleasant experience for me. It's hard to put my finger on why honestly because I think everything in the game is cohesive and nicely done. Just not to my taste. ★ Art, Iconography and components functional ★ Clever or interesting mechanisms ★ Reasonably low downtime between turns with mildly AP players ☆ Multiple plays stay interesting ★ Low or mitigatable luck elements ★☆☆☆☆ Raw enjoyment
