Shikoku
Players take on the roles of pilgrims climbing a 33-step staircase toward a pagoda while chanting mantras. Each round, players play a card into a shared mantra line and place their pilgrim on that card; most pilgrims advance according to their card’s value, but the pilgrims who are second from the left and second from the right do not move. Turn order shifts by moving the lowest-value mantra card from the front of the line to the back, and players draw to refill hands from the discard/mantra pile. The game ends when one or more pilgrims reach the top; the winners are the pilgrims who are second from the top and second from the bottom on the steps.
