Lions of Lydia

Players take the role of influential leaders in an ancient kingdom at the dawn of coinage. Each turn they draft merchant tiles, manage a bag of merchant tokens, and send merchants to produce resources, expand landholdings, and buy cards for their tableau. The game centers on bag management and engine-building: traditional merchants generate basic goods used to develop properties, while noble merchants introduce powerful Lydian coins that act as a stronger currency for purchasing high-value cards. Play ends when enough properties are developed; the player with the most successful engine and holdings wins.

Tier 4- Above average with some compelling hooks— good for a few plays Simply based on my high expectations, this was a disappointment. I like the aesthetics and the small footprint. The mechanisms are "ok"— just a variation of collect-resources-and-turn-in-for-points. Also not a fan of breaking up the game in numerous "micro modules". I like the designer to come up with the optimal gaming experience of their design— I do not like having to decide that every time I open the box. Selecting a game to play now days is challenging enough — then having to choose which "micro" models to play with and which not...ugh!
