Salem

Set during the Salem witch trials of 1692, the game depicts a Puritan community consumed by fear, suspicion, and religious fanaticism. Each player controls six residents, including three witches, and must identify other witches while concealing their own. Across four rounds representing the months of the hysteria, players conduct witch hunts, send residents to jail, and provide alibis for their prisoners. Jailed residents stand trial at the end of each round, after which the players decide collectively who is hanged or spared. The player who most successfully distinguishes witches from villagers wins.

This is a 7 player fragile deduction activity (i don't see the game here) where in the first two rounds players start guessing 50/50 odds to earn points. In the 3rd and 4th round, enough information has been revealed that all players simultaneously have everything they need to guess correctly (Barring math mistakes) to earn points. There is little to no player choice in this game. Assuming players are of equal logic skill, you could have the same experience guessing the result of a coin flip twice and then calling it a day. The components are awful. Brown and orange are similar, the tokens are teeny and the pencils don't have erasers. The setup is very convoluted and It's easy to make a mistake causing you to have to redo the whole setup process again. In our game, one player accidentally gave a wrong clue which also wrecked the entire game. Using logical deduction we were able to tell who gave the wrong clue and when, but by that time the game had been extended substantially from everyone recalculating their grids. I'd rate this "game" a 0 if I could. :nostar: Art, Iconography and components functional :nostar: Clever or interesting mechanisms :nostar: Reasonably low downtime between turns with mildly AP players :nostar: Multiple plays stay interesting :nostar: Low or mitigatable luck elements :nostar::nostar::nostar::nostar::nostar: Raw enjoyment
