Spicy

Spicy

Players compete in a light bluffing card game where cards are played face down and declared aloud, letting players truthfully play or intentionally misstate their card. Each turn requires choosing a card to play or passing while opponents decide whether to call the bluff; successful calls and undetected bluffs both affect the flow of the round. Hand management and tactical choices matter because many plays can be partially justified (color or numeric matches and wilds), so players weigh risky declarations against passing. The box includes variant cards for alternate rules and features distinctive illustrated cards and gold-accented components.

Very similar to the classic Spanish game "the liar" but with interesting twists. Super fun!!

I have my doubts about this game. I'm almost sure bluffing is not my (our) genre, plus judging from the rules, challenging cards seems like a total crapshoot... but I couldn't help it. The cards are beautiful and the game also looks like it can be hilarious fun in the right situation, so I want to give it a chance. Update: it's not bad at 2 players, it's super fun with 5-6.

Can I lie about the number or spice when I play a face‑down card?

Yes — when you play a card facedown you declare its number and spice, and “your declaration may be true, but it doesn't have to be.” (Rulebook p.3).

What happens if I look at facedown cards on the spicy stack?

Do not look at any facedown cards; the penalty for doing so is to draw 1 card into your hand. (Rulebook p.3).

How must numbers escalate when cards are played, and what happens after 10?

The first card of a spicy stack must be a 1, 2, or 3 in any spice; later plays must declare a higher number in the same spice, and after a 10 is declared the next declaration must be a 1, 2, or 3 in that same spice (wrapping). (Rulebook p.3).

What can I challenge and what happens when a challenge is resolved?

Any player may challenge the topmost card by calling either “wrong number” or “wrong spice”; reveal the card and only the named trait matters — if the challenger is correct they collect the whole spicy stack facedown as points, otherwise the challenger draws 2 cards and play continues with a new spicy stack. (Rulebook p.4).

When must I announce my last card and what if I forget?

You must announce aloud when you play your last card; if you forget you must take the card back into your hand and pass (draw 1). If your last card is not challenged or you win a challenge on it you collect a trophy (trophy effects and endgame triggers described). (Rulebook p.5).

How do Wild cards work in challenges?

Wilds represent either all numbers or all spices, but they are always considered wrong if challenged for the trait they don’t explicitly show — treat them according to the challenged trait when resolving the challenge. (Rulebook p.4).
