Players take the roles of competing Italian and foreign powers vying for control of Renaissance Italy. The game models shifting alliances, warfare, rebellion and political maneuvering across the peninsula as states expand, invade and form coalitions. Play resolves through map-based military campaigns, negotiation and diplomatic deals, and the use of event-driven cards that can trigger assassinations, uprisings or external intervention. Multiple scenarios vary the starting balance and foreign involvement, letting players replay different historical configurations of power.
