Princes of the Renaissance

Players take the roles of minor Condottiere princes in Renaissance Italy, vying for influence in five major city-states. Cities contain character tiles with unique powers and point values that players buy to build interests and gain income. Conflict arises when cities go to war: players bid influence to become the Condottiere for a city, assemble armies, and resolve battles with a mix of force and chance. Winning and losing both yield payments, and influence, gold, and army size are traded off as resources. Treachery tiles and bribery let players subvert outcomes, manipulate auctions, or weaken forces, while negotiation and the office of the Pope offer additional political levers.
