2nd Fleet: Modern Naval Combat in the North Atlantic

Simulation of late Cold War naval operations in the North Atlantic and Arctic, pitting the Soviet Northern Fleet against the US Second Fleet and NATO allies. Players command surface task forces, carriers, escort ships, submarines and limited air assets, assigning aircraft to combat air patrols, long-range strikes and antisubmarine missions while protecting capital ships and replenishment convoys from missiles, torpedoes and air attack. Gameplay divides each 8-hour turn into three phases (sub, surface, air); players alternate choosing which phase to resolve for their forces. Detection and fog-of-war play a key role, with sensors and movement revealing surface units but rolls required to detect submarines. Optional rules cover nuclear weapons and logistics, and scenarios range from short introductions to multi-session campaigns.
