Iberia

Set on the Iberian Peninsula in 1848, players assume specialist roles such as nurse, railwayman, rural doctor and sailor to halt outbreaks of malaria, typhus, yellow fever and cholera. Players move between cities by carriage, boat or train, treat disease cubes, distribute purified water and build rail links to slow transmission while cooperating to discover cures. Two optional variants change gameplay: one increases patient influx toward hospitals and boosts hospital abilities; the other assigns unique powers to each historical disease for more thematic challenge.

Our first game was incredibly close (we won), down to the very last card. It was one of my favorite board gaming experiences. I like the changes and look of this version very much, and there's a couple of nice variants in the box as well, so I don't feel the need to own the original Pandemic anymore.
