Phantom Leader

A solitaire simulation of US Air Force and Navy tactical fighter operations over Vietnam, 1964–1972. Players plan and fly individual missions, select pilots and loadouts, and manage pilot experience and fatigue as they attempt to accomplish assigned targets. Missions involve balancing destructive effect against political sensitivity: attacking high-value targets increases political pressure and narrows future options, while lighter strikes help keep the campaign politically sustainable. Aircraft types, service-specific target lists, and era-appropriate restrictions shape mission choices and combat outcomes. Campaigns vary in length (Skirmish, Conflict, War) and use scenario cards, event cards, counters, and a campaign log to resolve sorties and long-term effects.
