Diamonds

2014 · Card Game

Diamonds

Players compete in a trick-taking game that converts card play into physical jewel collection. Each round, players are dealt ten cards from a 60-card deck (four suits, values 1–15). One player leads and others follow suit if able; playing off-suit immediately grants a Suit Action tied to the suit played. Trick winners take an additional Suit Action. Suit Actions let players take acrylic Diamond Crystals from the supply and place them in a Showroom (worth 1 point but vulnerable to theft) or a Vault (worth 2 points and secure). After ten tricks, the player who took the most cards in each suit receives that suit’s Suit Action; players who took no tricks receive two Diamond Suit Actions. Rounds repeat until the game ends and the highest Diamond point total wins.

A neat little trick taker with powers for the various suits. Didn't grip me as much as the other trick takers in my collection, but its a mechanic I would like to see explored more. - 8/22/21

A fresh trick-taking game that's great with up to 6 players. Easy to get traditional card gamers into, with enough newness to keep hobby gamers involved. Great components too!
