Irish Gauge
Players develop railways across a map of Ireland by buying shares, laying track cubes, upgrading towns to cities, and calling for dividends. On a turn a player either places a share into auction, builds track for one of five companies, upgrades a town to a city, or triggers a dividend payment; dividends pay shareholders of companies based on the cities and towns their networks connect and on how many shares have been issued. Upgrades and dividends influence game length and future payout chances. The game ends when an endgame condition is met after a turn; final scores combine cash on hand and the value of owned shares.

Evan1.6 Had a very odd experience with this game. A player connected two cities with a line only he had invested in while we were all buying other stocks and investing in building out our lines. Starting action 2 or 3, he just did the payout action, and every time he did pulled the cube he needed from the bank and got a $10 payout. He ended the game extremely quickly and won by a large margin. When we reacted by putting up another share of the stock of that line for auction, he had more cash in hand and won the auction himself. As a result we had a 40 min game experience where nothing we did mattered at all, and it felt pretty senseless. I'm sure we must have succumbed to group think or made newbie mistakes, but I really don't see what about this game is strong enough to call me back for another try. :star: Art, Iconography and components functional :nostar: Clever or interesting mechanisms :star: Reasonably low downtime between turns with mildly AP players :nostar: Multiple plays stay interesting :star: Low or mitigatable luck elements :nostar::nostar::nostar::nostar::nostar: Raw enjoyment
