Planet Unknown

Players design and develop a new world by placing polyomino-shaped, dual-resource tiles onto a personal planet grid. Each tile supplies two types of infrastructure and, after placement, grants the corresponding actions to build resource engines and expand capabilities. A rotating central tray distributes tiles simultaneously, creating a mix of simultaneous selection and turn-based resolution via a shared space station mechanism. Certain placements trigger meteors that block rows and columns and change scoring conditions, so placement affects both coverage efficiency and long-term engine planning. The game supports 1–6 players and focuses on spatial optimization, managing resource actions, and adapting to hazards while completing the planet grid.

Rules questions

Answered from the rulebook by Ludoya's rules assistant.

If I can't legally place either of the two tiles in front of me, do I still pick one or does the game end immediately?

You still choose one tile and advance your trackers for BOTH resources on that tile but you do not place it; the round finishes and then the game ends (if that condition triggered the end). (p.4)

Does my very first tile have to touch the planet's perimeter?

Yes — the first tile you place on your planet must touch the perimeter of the planet grid. (p.4)

Can I place tiles diagonally, overlap tiles, or stack tiles on top of each other?

No — tiles must be aligned to the grid, cannot overlap or be stacked, and after the first tile every new tile must be orthogonally adjacent (not diagonally) to at least one existing tile. (p.4)

If a tile has a water icon, do I have to put the water square on planetary ice to advance my water tracker?

To advance the water tracker, at least one water terrain square on the tile must be placed directly onto planetary ice; the tile can still be placed legally without advancing water. (p.5)

When I place a tile with an energy icon, which tracker does the energy advance?

Energy does not have its own track — when you place an energy resource you choose to advance either the non-energy resource on that tile or the resource corresponding to any terrain orthogonally adjacent to the energy terrain area created by your placement. (p.6)

How do resource trackers convert to points at the end of the game, and what if a tracker is at the top?

At game end you score the highest medal value that each tracker has surpassed or currently covers on its track; if a tracker reached the top you score that track's maximum medal but (except for rovers) you no longer gain further benefits from placing that resource. Also follow the end-of-game steps (place stored biomass, execute end-game techs, resolve end-game civ cards) before totaling medals. (pp.5–6)
