Sagrada

Players draft colorful translucent dice to assemble a stained-glass window on a personal grid that enforces placement restrictions by color and shade. Dice may not be placed adjacent to others of the same color or value, and some spaces on each board limit which color or shade may occupy them. Drafting proceeds in player order with the start player rotating each round, and variable scoring cards reward specific patterns, color sets, and a hidden shade-focused objective. A set of tool cards lets players bend placement rules by spending skill tokens; using a tool increases its future cost for opponents. The player with the highest score at the end wins.

#41 A very good game for beginners. Unfortunately it's a little bit too fiddly. There's something about it that makes me not as excited for the game as I used to be when I pull it out. I honestly can't tell what it is, it's a good game. I really appreciate this game for what it is. It's not one of my favorites, but it's a strong design. Feels like Cascadia will scratch a similar itch, let’s see who will stay. Ultimately, I feel like I played this enough. It's a pretty good game but I don't need to play it any more. The new edition is beautiful, but other than that, it adds nothing, which is disappointing. I’m not even sure why I bought it again, oh well… gonna play it a few times, then probably sell it once more.

Rules questions

Answered from the rulebook by Ludoya's rules assistant.

Does my first die have to go on an edge, and can I place dice diagonally?

Yes — your first die of the game must be placed on an edge or corner space, and every other die must be adjacent to a previously placed die either orthogonally or diagonally (page 3).

Can I place a die orthogonally next to a die of the same color or the same number?

No — dice may never be placed orthogonally adjacent (side-by-side) to a die of the same color or the same value (page 3).

Do I have to follow the color or number printed on a window space?

Yes — when you place a die it must match the color or the value printed on that space (white spaces have no restriction) (page 3).

How do Tool Cards work and how many Favor Tokens do they cost?

To use a Tool Card you place Favor Tokens on it (place 1 if there are none on the card, otherwise place 2) and then apply its ability; using a Tool is optional on your turn (page 3).

What happens if my window breaks placement rules — do I lose dice or points?

If your window breaks placement restrictions you must immediately remove dice of your choice until all restrictions are obeyed; those dice are out of play and any resulting open spaces count against your score (page 4).

How many dice do we draw each round and how does the snake draft/turn order work?

Each round draw 2 dice per player plus one extra (5 dice for 2 players, 7 for 3, 9 for 4); turns go clockwise for the first picks starting with the Start Player, then reverse (counter-clockwise) for the second picks (page 3).
