2024 · Card Game
Xylotar
Players reconstruct a lost 80s hybrid instrument by playing and bidding in a trick-taking card game with a musical theme. Each card shows a color and an unknown rank; players see only the colors in their hand and the relative ordering of those cards, so deduction and observation are used to infer actual values. Players bid on how many tricks they will take, then play tricks to score points for accurate bids and for winning specific suits. The goal is to collect the best-scoring combinations to achieve commercial success for the instrument, balancing risk in bidding with information gained through play.
