Players take the roles of a Portuguese captain and crew during an Age of Discovery voyage, choosing between a historical scenario or a randomized map for varied runs. Each round, players manage a shared hand/tableau of multi-use cards to confront weather, storms, disease, fatigue, and unrest that threaten mutiny. Cards serve multiple functions and combinations of icons trigger events that can help or harm the expedition. A pawn tracks fleet position while markers and a deck of 54 cards represent progressing hazards and accumulating traumas that increase difficulty over time. The game plays in short sessions and emphasizes hand and tableau management to balance risk, crew welfare, and the pursuit of profit.
