Roads to Stalingrad: Campaign Commander Series

A two-player operational-level simulation of the 1942 summer offensive in southern Russia and the subsequent Soviet winter response. One player commands Axis forces—including German, Hungarian, Romanian and Italian contingents—pushing toward the Caucasus and the Volga; the other player commands Soviet defenses and prepares counteroffensives. Play uses a zonal map at 1:120,000 scale with counters and a card deck. Cards trigger events, influence battles, and place reinforcements rather than drive the game. Players maneuver troops, manage resources and timing, and score victory points by destroying enemy units or occupying key cities. The Axis starts with the initiative and must choose whether to press for Stalingrad, the Caucasus, or both, while the Soviet player aims to absorb the offensive, build strength and launch a decisive winter operation.
