Each round presents a written case with suspects, locations and questions to answer; players move between numbered locales to uncover hidden clues and record findings on individual checklists. Investigation includes visiting the crime scene and surrounding sites to piece together evidence, then returning to 221B to announce the solution. Players race to deduce the correct answers from gathered evidence, with the first correct solution winning the case.
