Deep Regrets

Players captain small fishing expeditions, rolling bespoke tackle dice each turn to set their strength and then choosing whether to stay at sea or return to port to sell catch, buy provisions, and recover energy. Nine shoals at three depths present shadowed targets; players flip and spend dice to catch fish, resolve reveal and catch abilities, and add specimens to their collection while weighing size, risk, and reward. Catching increasingly bizarre and horrifying creatures earns Regrets cards that raise madness, grant additional dice, and boost the value of stranger fish—yet accumulated Regrets force endgame penalties to mounted trophies. A solo/campaign mode tasks a single player with cataloging species across multiple sessions, discarding fish equal to regrets after each game and building a reference that can inform multiplayer play.

أسئلة القواعد

إجابات من كتيّب القواعد يقدمها مساعد القواعد في Ludoya.

Do I have to declare which fish I'm attempting before I roll the dice?

Yes — you reveal/select a Shoal and the top Fish is "on the hook" during the fishing action before rolling; Declaration (placing yourself at Sea or Port and equipping gear) is resolved in the Declaration phase before the Action phase. (p.5, p.6)

Can I choose to spend fewer dice than my Max Dice when trying to catch a Fish?

Yes — you may spend any number of Fresh dice (at least one) up to your Max Dice; Madness determines your Max Dice but you can always choose to spend fewer. (p.6, p.11)

If I fail to pay a Fish's Difficulty, am I forced to abandon ship or can I try again?

Failing a catch does not force abandonment — if you can't or won't pay a Fish's Difficulty you must spend one die and draw a Dink, and that fishing action ends; Abandon Ship is a separate one-time action you may take if your lifeboat is face-up. (p.6)

If I sell a Foul Fish, do I have to draw a Regret card and does that change the money I get?

For each Foul Fish you sell you must draw one Regret card, and the Fish sells for its current Madness-modified Value before you draw those Regrets. (p.9, p.10)

What's the difference between the number of Regret cards and Regret Value — which affects Madness and scoring?

The number of Regret cards (public) determines your Madness level in real time, while Regret Value (the sum of face values, kept hidden) is used for end-of-game scoring; a flipped lifeboat adds +10 Regret Value but does not count as a Regret card. (p.10, p.11)

What happens to dice when I spend them to catch a Fish — player dice vs. tackle dice?

Spent player dice go to your Spent Pool, while spent tackle dice are returned to the dice bag; also, if a Fish's cost is 0 you don't need to spend dice to catch it. (p.6, p.9)
