Gold River

2020 · Joc de cartes

Gold River

Players bid for lots of items—mines, dynamite, town characters and more—then split the bid payment among players to the right as the winner takes the lot. The winning bidder chooses one item from the revealed group, then players pick in turn until everyone has taken an item. After winning an auction the bidder rolls two dice to see which gold mines pay out. Acquiring two mines in the same town makes a player that town’s Mayor and earns them commissions when others take cards there. Includes a dedicated two-player mode and an advanced poker-style variant.

There is a fun enough game here but the very strange choice to have all these action cards with not-so-obvious effects have ZERO indication of what they do on the card itself. While the art on them is lovely, they don't always relate to the effect and definitely not as precisely as they need to. Having to read though the rule book every so often is a pain. This alone makes the first game an unnecessary struggle when it could have easily been an easy /smooth light game. I will normally never complain about cards with gorgeous art, but to emphasize on just that at the cost of gameplay is just a very weird choice. Hopefully people can give this a second chance?
