Puerto Rico 1897: Special Edition

Players assume rotating civic and economic roles to build a thriving colonial-era island economy. Each turn a different role grants players special actions—such as constructing buildings, producing crops, shipping goods, trading, or exploiting resources—and players plan their choices around those available roles. Players improve their cityscape by purchasing and placing buildings, cultivate and harvest various plantations to generate goods, and allocate goods to ships or trading houses for victory points and money. The Special Edition compiles previous expansions, adds a new expansion and a solo mode, and updates components and artwork for an upgraded physical presentation.

Dubtes de regles

Respostes a partir del reglament per l'assistent de regles de Ludoya.

Do I have to perform the role action when I choose a role, or can I skip it?

Performing a role action is optional for the player who chooses it (except the Captain); the chooser may decide whether to perform the action and take the advantage, while other players may perform only the action without the advantage; if a player cannot or chooses not to perform the action they are skipped for that role (Rulebook p.3).

On the Captain turn, do I have to load goods if I can?

Yes — each time it is your turn during the Shipment phase you must load goods if you can, and you must load as many barrels of one type as possible, choosing an empty ship that lets you load the most barrels (Rulebook p.6).

How many barrels can I keep after the Shipment phase?

Each player may store only one barrel on their Portrait at the end of the Shipment phase unless they have an occupied Warehouse; any remaining barrels must be returned to the supply (Rulebook p.6).

Do I need both an occupied Estate and an occupied Production Building to produce Fruit/Sugar/Tobacco/Coffee?

Yes — for Fruit, Sugar, Tobacco, and Coffee you need an occupied matching Estate in your Countryside and an occupied Production Building in your City; Corn is produced directly from occupied Corn Estates and Production Building semicircles limit how many barrels a building can produce (Rulebook pp.5, 8).

Can I sell a good to the Trading House if it already contains that type of good?

No — the Trading House cannot hold more than one barrel of the same good at a time unless you have an occupied Office; the Trading House also only holds four barrels and if it is full remaining players must skip the Trade unless they have an occupied Trading Post (Rulebook p.5).

When does the game end and how do we score at the end?

The game ends at the end of the round when workers can’t be refilled, a player has filled all City spaces, or the last VP chip is taken; final scoring is your accumulated VP chips plus the VP printed on each of your Buildings and any bonus VP for occupied Large Buildings, with ties broken by most coins and goods (Rulebook p.7).
