Trains

Trains

Players act as private railway capitalists in Japan’s railway boom, buying and drafting cards to build a deck that powers their operations. During play, cards are used to place stations and lay track on regional maps, run trains for points, and purchase upgrades or new rolling stock. Strategic deck-building and route placement determine income and scoring as companies grow and merge over time. Games use modular maps and evolving card pools to change options each session, and some editions add modern trains and integration with expansion content.

Deck building/management game. Each game is different due to the "Randomizer" cards that set the cards for purchase. The game includes 20-30 unique card types so every play favors different strategies. You try to manage your deck while also managing a board with train stations and train tracks, increasing your points by being connected to larger cities. Surprisingly fun for what is a potentially bland and unimaginative (and overdone) theme. Teaches in 15 min. Light-medium gameplay.

A cute deckbuilding game somewhere between Dominion and Steam. Quick playing, but not as deep or as interesting as either of it's cousins. Enjoyable every now and then. :nostar: Art, Iconography and components functional :nostar: Clever or interesting mechanisms :star: Reasonably low downtime between turns with mildly AP players :nostar: Multiple plays stay interesting :star: Low or mitigatable luck elements :star::star::nostar::nostar::nostar: Raw enjoyment

Completely replaced Dominion for me. I know that it is just Dominion with a board, but the board adds so much to the game. Can't wait to get the expansion and the smaller board as this is commonly played just 2 player for me.
