Risorgimento 1859: the Second Italian War of Independence

This historical wargame covers the Second Italian War of Independence in 1859, as Piedmont and France oppose the Austrian army with support from Garibaldi’s partisans. It includes scenarios for the battles of Magenta and Solferino, as well as a campaign using a point-to-point map and mechanics representing coordination, guarded approaches, concentration, and early military railroads. Battle rules focus on maneuver and combat while keeping units distinct through Morale rather than numerical Strength. Magenta centers on French forces crossing a major river amid scattered reinforcements, while Solferino depicts French and Austrian corps colliding in difficult, hilly terrain. The game supports one to four players, with battalion and regimental units in battles and divisions and corps in the campaign.
