Prelude to Disaster: The Soviet Spring Offensive

This historical wargame covers the May 1942 Soviet spring offensive in southern Ukraine, between the end of the Soviet winter counteroffensive and the beginning of the German Stalingrad campaign. Soviet armies prepare to capture Kharkov and secure crossings of the Dnepr River, while German forces attempt to cut off the offensive at its base. Players command battalion- to corps-sized units across a map scaled at five miles per hex, with turns representing two days. Two scenarios support complete games in a single sitting, using the Winter Storm Campaign Series rules. High-complexity play lasts approximately 8–10 hours and supports two or more players.
