A Victory Lost: Crisis in Ukraine 1942-1943

A simulation of the mobile fighting between Axis and Soviet forces on the southwestern USSR steppes from December 1942 through the counterattacks of early 1943. Players command division- to corps-level units on an 8-mile hex map, conducting offensives, withdrawals and counterattacks over ten-day turns as Soviet forces attempt to encircle retreating Axis armies and Axis forces try to extricate themselves and restore the front. Rules cover movement, combat and operational maneuver; play supports two or more players, runs about 3–5 hours, and rates medium for complexity and solitaire suitability.
