Awkward Guests: The Walton Case
A deduction game in which players reconstruct a murder at a country mansion by gathering and trading information. Players hold a hand of cards that each carry a point value and references to suspects, locations, motives and clues. On a turn a player requests information about two different references; other players may reveal cards that match and exchange them by balancing point values. Between rounds players examine police reports, question household staff and search the estate to narrow down who killed the victim, how it was done, why it happened and whether there was an accomplice. After each round anyone may attempt to solve the case; unresolved games refresh part of each hand with new cards and continue until a correct solution is declared.

Rules questions
Answered from the rulebook by Ludoya's rules assistant.
How many references can I ask about during my Inquiry Phase, and does that change for a two‑player game?
On your turn you must request information about 2 different references (suspects and/or rooms). In the two‑player variant you instead request information about 4 different references (see page 9; two‑player changes on page 10).
Can I offer cards that don't include any of the references I asked for?
No — non‑active players may only offer cards that contain at least one of the requested references; offering cards without those references is not allowed (see page 9).
When I accept an offer, do the cards I give have to contain the requested references or just match the information point total?
Cards you give in exchange may be any cards regardless of their references; the only requirement is that the total information value of the cards you give equals or exceeds the offered total (see page 9).
If I try to solve the case and I'm wrong, what happens to me and my cards?
A player who guesses and is incorrect is eliminated from the game, their cards are revealed to all players and placed in the revealed pile; if you use the app the penalty is different (see page 10).
How can I dismiss a suspect or rule out a weapon?
A suspect can be dismissed if they could not access the Study by any possible route shown on the map, or if all three of their possible motives are dismissed they are innocent; a weapon is dismissed if the coroner's signs do not match, since each weapon leaves two signs and missing one is enough to dismiss it (see pages 11–12).
What do we do when the game deck runs out?
Shuffle the discard pile (cards under the “Classified Information” card), place the top 3 cards face up for public examination into the revealed pile, then use the remaining shuffled cards as the new game deck (see page 10).
