Duel for Cardia

Two players duel for control of a legendary city by playing numbered cards with unique abilities. Each player fields one of two decks containing identical card sets numbered 1–16; cards are resolved based on timing and values during head-to-head encounters. Players choose when to play cards and trigger abilities to win individual skirmishes and collect faction signets. Success across encounters and securing the required signet rings determines the overall victor.

Rules questions

Answered from the rulebook by Ludoya's rules assistant.

What happens if both cards have the same influence — who wins and do any abilities trigger?

If both cards tie, no card wins or loses, you do not place a signet, and you skip the Activate Ability phase — no losing-card ability is activated for that encounter (page 4).

If my card loses, when do I activate its ability — right away or later?

Only the card that loses the current encounter immediately activates its ability in phase 2, and you must resolve that ability fully (page 4).

What's the difference between instant and ongoing abilities — when do they take effect and how do ongoing tokens work?

Instant abilities resolve immediately once when activated; ongoing abilities get an ongoing token placed on the card and remain in effect until that token is removed (and if removed you immediately resolve any resulting changes) (page 5).

How do influence modifiers get applied and do they change past encounter results or trigger abilities?

Modifiers placed on a card are immediately added to that card's influence and remain while present; if that changes the encounter result move the signet accordingly (or return it for a tie), but the ability of a card that now loses because of modifiers is not activated (pages 6, 9).

What if the physical tokens (signets, ongoing tokens, modifiers) run out during play?

Tokens are not limited; if any run out use any suitable substitute to represent them (page 5).

When do I draw at the end of the round and what if my deck is empty (any exceptions)?

At the end of each round you draw exactly one card from your deck; if your deck is empty you cannot draw (do not reshuffle) and you do not lose the game for failing to draw — note some Location cards can modify or override draw rules (page 6; see location exceptions on page 13).
