Catan: Junior
Players explore a ring of islands as rival pirate crews, collecting island-specific resources (wood, goats, molasses, swords) and gold to build ships, pirate hideouts and earn Coco the Parrot tiles. Each turn players roll dice to produce resources, expand their network by placing ships and hideouts, and use Coco tiles to gain extra board pieces; the Ghost Captain can block production when he appears. The game includes maps for two to four players, a simplified market on the board, and streamlined trading rules for an introductory family experience. Play continues until one player controls seven pirate hideouts.

Evan4.6 This game follows the normal rules for Catan, but scaled down nicely for young kids. I personally haven't felt the drive to play Catan in many years, but I was really pleased with this experience with 5 year olds. The key changes are, the cards are simplified so many of them just produce some resources for you and there's no more trading directly between players, rather you trade with a on-the-board bank, so it's still players swapping, but the direct negotiation is gone, as you use these bins as an intermediary. The kids had a good time with it, but it did run a little long for their attention spans with 4 players. :star: Art, Iconography and components functional :star: Clever or interesting mechanisms :star: Reasonably low downtime between turns with mildly AP players :nostar: Multiple plays stay interesting :nostar: Low or mitigatable luck elements :star::star::star::nostar::nostar: Raw enjoyment
