Hansa Teutonica

Players act as medieval traders vying for influence across the Hanseatic trade network. On a shared map of cities and trade routes, players move pawns to control connections, build offices, and collect bonus markers for points. Control of cities and completed connections grant immediate rewards or ongoing income, and opponents earn points when they use controlled cities. Players also spend turns improving personal skills that expand action options: more action points, additional pawns, stronger office scoring, and access to special pawn types. Scoring comes from offices in networks, city control, collected bonuses, and trigger points when others use controlled locations.

Rules questions

Answered from the rulebook by Ludoya's rules assistant.

If I displace an opponent’s piece, where does that piece go and what do I have to pay?

Your resource replaces the opponent’s on the field and you must move a penalty from your personal supply to the stock (1 resource if you displaced a trader, 2 if a merchant); the displaced player must then place the displaced piece plus 1 (or 2) from the stock onto an adjacent empty field (if no adjacent empty fields, a greater distance may be used), and shortages are resolved by taking from personal supply or pieces on the board (page 2).

Can I move my pieces into cities when I take the “Move Resources” activity?

No — the Move Resources activity lets you rearrange up to the number on your Book of Lore but you cannot move Offices between cities or move resources into cities (page 2).

If I claim a route and get a bonus marker, can I use that bonus marker immediately in the same activity?

No — a bonus marker cannot be used in the middle of the activity in which it was acquired, but it can be used anytime during your turn thereafter and does not count as an activity; after taking each bonus marker you draw a replacement face down and place it later onto eligible routes (page 2).

What exactly do I need to open an Office from a claimed route?

You must place a resource from the claimed route into the leftmost available space of an adjacent city (matching square = trader or round = merchant), have the required Privilege color to occupy that space, and you may not skip empty city spaces; if the city has no empty spaces you need the Extra Office bonus marker (page 3).

How is control of a city determined when awarding prestige or for scoring ties?

Control goes to the player with the most Offices in that city, and in case of a tie the player occupying the higher-valued space (the one further to the right) controls the city (pages 2 and 3).

When exactly does the game end if someone reaches 20 points or the bonus marker supply runs out?

The game ends immediately at the end of the activity that triggered the condition (not mid-activity or necessarily at the end of a turn); any special effects caused by that activity (e.g., opening an Office) are applied before the game ends (page 3).
