Hero Realms

2016 · Card Game

Hero Realms

Players build and customize a personal deck of gold, weapons, champions, and actions in a fantasy setting. Each turn players draw a hand, play cards for gold or combat, and use gold to buy cards from a shared Market row. Champions and action cards provide ongoing effects, resources, or attacks that can hit opponents and their champions. Players reshuffle discards when their deck runs out and manage tempo and purchases to strengthen their deck. The goal is to reduce an opponent’s health to zero. Rules cover two-player and several multiplayer variants, with optional character classes, cooperative boss encounters, and campaign-style progression available through expansions.

After many plays of Star Realms in the past, I decided to get this one. Very similar and sometimes very limited options in the market depending on how expensive the cards there are. Aside from that, very quick to teach/learn and great interactions.

Interesante juego de deckbuilding con un arte espectacular.

  • Benjamín Amorín8.0

Really similar to Star Realms with some improvements, like richer habilities, a bit more of depth, and that can handle more players with the core game. Games can be a little longer and a bit more complex to teach than Star Realms, and that can be worse for some people. The game grows a little more with Character Decks.

Rules questions

Answered from the rulebook by Ludoya's rules assistant.

If I need to draw but my personal deck is empty, what do I do?

If your personal deck is empty when you need to draw or reveal cards, shuffle your discard pile and place it face‑down as your new personal deck, then continue drawing (example and rule in Draw Phase). (page 2)

When I buy a card from the Market, does it go into play or into my discard pile?

Acquiring a card does not count as playing it — you pay its cost and put the acquired card into your discard pile. (page 2)

Can I keep leftover Gold or Combat for my next turn?

No — Gold and Combat accumulate in pools during your Main Phase but any Gold or Combat remaining is lost during your Discard Phase. (page 2)

My opponent has a Guard Champion—can I attack their other Champions or the player directly?

While an opponent has a prepared guard in play, you may not attack the player or their non‑guard Champions; you must first stun all guards before targeting those Champions or the player. Champions prepare at the end of their owner's turn. (pages 1–2)

Can I use a Champion’s Expend ability the same turn I played it, and when does a champion become prepared again?

Yes — Expend abilities can be used at any point during your Main Phase, including the turn you played the card; to expend you turn the card sideways. All Champions are prepared (turned upright) during the Discard Phase. (page 1; Discard Phase on page 2)

When I play an Action or Item, does it go to the discard pile immediately or stay in play?

An Action or Item’s primary ability happens immediately when played, and then the card stays face‑up in play until your Discard Phase, when you place it into your discard pile. (page 1; Discard Phase on page 2)
