Paupers' Ladder

Players take the role of impoverished challengers in a royal tournament designed for the least advantaged citizens of Brighthelm. Each player controls a pauper and a bird companion, moving them across a regional map to explore locations, battle monsters, undertake quests, gather ingredients, and craft recipes from a large deck of encounter, equipment, and location cards. Play proceeds by activating both the Pauper and the Bird each turn, choosing movement and exploration actions; paupers may spend resources to travel farther. The objective is to acquire three of five virtues (generosity, fellowship, bravery, knowledge, magnificence), earned by completing specific tasks or spending resources, with the first player to learn three virtues winning the game.
