Expo 1906

In Milan in 1906, nations prepare inventions and technological advances for the Universal Exposition. Players compete for prestige by completing Projects representing historical inventions, using resources arranged in their increasingly crowded Laboratories. Technologies can reduce resource requirements or improve available actions, while registering ideas at the Patents’ Office establishes leadership in specific resources. Players must manage space, resources, technologies, and priorities as they develop their exhibits before the exposition begins.

This is a delightful game where players are competing to complete projects. The project tiles are these neat brown tetris like pieces that you lay into your player grid, and then have to surround the projects with tiles that have printed symbols matching those things on the projects. When completed the project scores, and you get bonus points for having the top marker on the chart area also matching those symbols. The game is very tight, and points are hard to come by, which is fascinating as you try your very best to squeeze out every point. ★ Art, Iconography and components functional ★ Clever or interesting mechanisms ★ Reasonably low downtime between turns with mildly AP players ★ Multiple plays stay interesting ★ Low or mitigatable luck elements ★★☆☆☆ Raw enjoyment
