Evasion

A race game played on an 8×8 board, with each player starting with 16 stones arranged on the two back rows. Stones move one or two spaces forward or sideways, with sideways movement allowed only when no forward move is available. When a stone is blocked directly ahead, it may move diagonally forward across any number of empty spaces. The first player to fill the opponent’s two back rows wins. Variants allow partial moves, or permit forward, diagonal, and sideways jumps over an opposing stone when starting from one of the first two ranks.
