In thirteenth-century Bologna, the Empire, the Papacy and the city’s guilds compete for influence in a rich but divided center of trade, industry and learning. Players secretly take on different roles and seek control of the city’s most coveted position of power. Each turn, dice provide goods and resources or trigger effects against rivals, sometimes with consequences for the player who rolls them. Strategies and objectives vary according to the hidden role each player holds, which remains secret until the game ends.
