Penny Black

Penny Black is a board game for 2–4 players. It plays in 20 minutes and is meant for ages 10 and up. Ludoya players call it best with 3. It is rated 5,2 out of 10 by 1 Ludoya reviewers.

Players assemble a stamp collection over ten rounds by drafting three available stamps each turn and adding them to a personal album. Each player scores differently based on individual collection goals, so placement and which stamps to draft matter for maximizing points. A special Penny Black stamp can modify values and becomes a contested high-value piece. Gameplay combines set collection, tile placement, and drafting as players react to changing availability and opponents’ strategies to build the most valuable album by game end.

Gorgeous production of an abstract tile-layer— somewhat lighter / accessible version of AZUL. While it was pleasant enough, the decisions were not very challenging —proven by the fact that even though I misunderstood and played with rules making it significantly tougher for myself than others at the table, I still did not come in last! I feel it will not hold up to a fraction of the number plays that any version of AZUL could (for me).
