State of Jefferson: The 51st State

A story roleplaying game about farmers, loners, and other off-grid residents of Northern California and Southern Oregon living in a self-declared “51st State.” Players explore the tension between modern life, personal freedom, taxation, state authority, and living in harmony with nature as outside interests threaten the community. Players alternate between directing scenes and portraying characters in crisis, using vignettes, interrogations, interludes, and ensemble scenes to shape the story. The game requires no preparation, supports three or more players, and uses a deck of poker cards and tokens to track drama points.
