Tarawa 1943

A solitaire World War II wargame simulating the US Marine invasion of a Japanese-held Pacific atoll in 1943. Players activate individual battalions (eight total), moving, attacking, and attempting to regroup while managing cohesion that degrades with each activation and from enemy actions. A 30-card deck supplies limited resources—naval gunfire, air support, engineers, tanks—and the player holds a three-card hand, able to play one card during the Marine turn and one during the Japanese turn. Each turn ends with a flipped card that generates Japanese responses—fire attacks, banzai charges, bunkers, crossfires, infiltration, and other events—creating variable scenarios. The game includes historically accurate and alternate landing sites. Victory depends on securing the island quickly while minimizing Marine casualties.
